Thousands Take Advantage of Poverty-Free Day at Mid-South Convoy of Hope

MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)- The Mid-south Convoy of Hope rolled through the bluff city assisting those in need.

"These are juices and then I got Campbell Soup and crackers and stuff like that," said Alice Ward.

Thousands attended the event at the Memphis Cook Convention Center. This poverty-free day provided comfort and relief to those in need. Mid-Southerners received free groceries, clothing and medical services.

This year’s event hit home with a mother of five.

"My Auntie passed away a little while ago and I help them. So most of this stuff will go to them as well as my house," said Shauna Killion.

Mid-South Convoy of Hope is hosted by a faith based organization. More than 2300 volunteers were on hand to help.

"It's a reward and a blessing for us. We come to give and we receive. When you realize that poverty is at its highest level in the United States that it's ever been since we started recording, then we know were making a difference," said Darwin Boston.

"I was just about in tears. This is actually a blessing to a lot of people," said Killion.
