WEST MEMPHIS, AR (abc24.com) - The Mid-South braced Tuesday night for a line of thunderstorms and the possibility of tornadoes, and it was all enough to cause a longtime West Memphis resident to pause.
Joyce Miller and her husband survived one tornado back in 1987.
"I always think of that night," said Miller.
Miller runs a forklift service business in West Memphis. Back in 1987, the business was on Thompson near Broadway. Miller says that December day started like any other.
"It was a cold day," she said. "Really cold."
She says that evening, all of a sudden, things started warming up. By nine, the tornado hit.
"There were days and nights of just nightmare," according to Miller.
She says their business was destroyed, along with all of the forklifts and expensive equipment inside.
"In the middle of all the debris, you couldn't find your business, you didn't know which garbage was yours," Miller said. "You just have to face it every day until you get it done, it is really scary because it just wipes you out."
"You are never insured for a total loss," Miller added.
Miller says she hopes her story reminds people of the dangers of tornadoes.
