HAYWOOD COUNTY, TN (abc24.com) - Three people were killed and two people injured in a crash on I-40 in Haywood County Monday evening.

The accident occurred on I-40 eastbound near the Brownsville exit around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 30. The accident involved a vehicle and an 18-wheeler.

Traffic was rerouted near the crash and the Tennessee Highway Patrol closed eastbound lanes as emergency crews cleared the scene.

The THP determined that a 2001 Ford pickup carrying five people from Kentucky was traveling westbound on I-40 when a tire blew out. The driver lost control of the truck, crossing the median to hit the 18-wheeler head on.

Three passengers in the truck were pronounced dead on the scene. They were later identified as 21-year-old Fernando Carrasco, 36-year-old Jose Hinojosa and Lupe Hinojosa, whose age wasn't immediately known. The driver was critically injured, and front passenger of the truck was treated and released. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
