MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - It's every parent's nightmare.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office says a toddler was discovered wandering around a Northaven neighborhood Thursday morning. They say neighbors found the child and called.

Originally it was thought the 3-year-old had been abandoned, but it turns out the child walked outside while his father was sleeping. He thankfully was returned to his home without injury.

Deputies later found the father of the child inside the house with the door open. The neighbor who found the boy, Leah Stricklin, said she knocked on the door of the home where the boy lived, but received no answer.

Stricklin said, "We knocked on that door, two or three times, Darlene from next door, we all knocked and he wouldn't answer and we had the little boy, you know!"

No charges are being filed against the father at this time.
