Tornado Strikes Fayette County Damaging One Man's Property

According to the National Weather Service an EF-1 Tornado touched down in Fayette county Saturday night.
FAYETTE CO., TN (abc24.com) - "I hollered back at my wife. I said, 'We're in a tornado, get in the middle of the house,' and she said, 'What?'" said Bill Funk whose property was damaged by a tornado.

Funk, the owner of an animal sanctuary, says his property suffered tornado damage. According to the National Weather Service an EF-1 tornado touched down in Fayette county Saturday night.

"I was afraid for the dogs because there were so many downed trees, huge trees that have been uprooted, limbs down on top of doghouses so I mean I thought we were gonna be down here dealing with injured dogs all day, but praise God that wasn't the case," said Eric Hart, who helped clean up tornado damage.

After reading Facebook comments about tornado damage in Mason, TN, Eric Hart reached out through social media for help at the damaged animal sanctuary. 128 dogs, 3 horses, and 3 cats are all in need of help.

"Right now what he needs more than anything is somebody to come and get the dogs that are here and take them home and foster them until they're prepared to bring them back, which obviously is gonna be awhile," said Debbie Glenn, who helped clean up tornado damage.

Nearly 60 people helped clean up the damage. A barn was destroyed, leaving a piece of the roof now stuck in the tree. A 1,500 pound wooden playground set was blown across the yard. Animal kennels were destroyed, leaving animals roaming free.

Funk says he's grateful for those who helped clean up the damage.

"It's a blessing. I mean my wildest imagination, I couldn't believe it. People have been calling me all day starting at 8:30 this morning. They have worked out here all day long," he said.
