Tunica County Couple Arrested for Child Abuse

TUNICA, MS (abc24.com) - A baby girl is in intensive care at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and her mother has been charged with felony child abuse.

The Tunica County Sheriff's Office was called to Shady Lane Apartments around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, to assist in a medical emergency. When deputies arrived, they were told by the ambulance service that a one-year-old girl was unresponsive. The child was immediately rushed to Le Bonheur in Memphis where she remains in the ICU.

The mother, 25-year-old Latoya Ankston, and her live-in boyfriend, 32-year-old Alfred Siggers, Jr., were both taken in to the sheriff's officer for questioning.

Ankston was charged with felony child abuse, Siggers, Jr. is still being held pending further investigation.

The Department of Human Services is also investigating four other children in the home, ranging in age from six years to one month.
