MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - There are more than 3,000 homes in the Sea Isle Park neighborhood of east Memphis. Residents say when they found out meth was being cooked inside of the homes, they weren't surprised.

Tim Cook is the president of the Sea Isle Park Neighborhood Association. He's also a retired Memphis police officer. Cook says just because he wasn't surprised meth was being made in his neighborhood doesn't mean it didn't anger him.

"These meth labs move from neighborhood to neighborhood, to neighborhood," he said. "It upsets me to have a meth lab in the neighborhood."

33-year-old John Snipes and 18-year-old Ashley Waddell were arrested at this home at 1485 Sea Isle. They're charged with possessing and manufacturing meth and with possession of marijuana.

Cook says people making meth in the neighborhood is something new. According to Cook, in the last 30 days there have been 30 crimes committed in the neighborhood.

"Our crimes have been breaking into cars," he said, but the meth bust was the first.

Cook says he's not worried about more meth houses being found in the area. Neither is he worried about any danger Thursday's meth bust may pose.

"Our fire department and organized crime do a good job once they find out one has been established in a neighborhood," said Cook. "They close in real fast, they shut it down and start making sure chemicals are separated and safe for the residents."

Why can't we leave people alone? The drug war is a failure, and now it's hitting home owners hard financially. I have a home near by that I'm trying to sell and now my property has dropped even more in value. I don't blame the "meth heads" for this, because my property value didn't go down until the police came along and put stickers all over that house. Now I'm having to pay for something I had nothing to do with. This wouldn't even be a problem if we would just leave people alone.
