Two Busted for Trying to Buy Drugs with Newspaper

Two men are behind bars after they tried to buy cocaine from an undercover police officer with newspaper disguised as stacks of money.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Two men are behind bars after they tried to buy cocaine from an undercover police officer with newspaper disguised as stacks of money.

Undercover agents with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force were staged at the Microtel Inn and Suites on the 2400-block of N. Germantown Pkwy on Wednesday, May 29, where two suspects thought they were buying two kilos of cocaine for $62,000.

Shawn Washington, 40, and Georglvekio Hampton, 34, arrived on the scene to buy the drugs and were intercepted by law enforcement. Washington tried to discard a loaded 9mm handgun and what appeared to be a large bag of money; when agents looked more closely, they saw the bag was full of newspaper disguised as stacks of cash.

Shawn Washington and Georglvekio Hampton were both charged with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery and Conspiracy to Sell Cocaine. Washington was also charged with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, and Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.

Both Washington and Hampton are being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $80,000 bond.
