MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A couple has been arrested in a robbery murder plot that left a former Memphis police officer dead.
According to the police affidavit, 22-year-old Ashley Carver and 24-year-old Michael Dean are accused of orchestrating the murder of Charles Jones, who was reported missing after he was last seen by his wife at their Bartlett home on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Investigators stated that Carver lured Jones to a residence in South Memphis with the promise of sex so Dean could rob him. Once Jones entered the home, Dean shot him in the head, placed his body in the trunk of the victim's Lexus, and drove the vehicle out to Madison County where the vehicle and body were both found burned.
Dean admitted to shooting and killing Jones, and Carver admitted to luring Jones and cleaning up the crime scene, the court document states.
Michael Dean and Ashley Carver are currently charged with First Degree Murder in Perpetration of Especially Aggravated Robbery and are being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail. A third suspect, 18-year-old Demetreous Santiago, is also wanted in connection with the case.
Charles Jones served on the Memphis Police Department from 1979 to 1989.
Dean, Carver and 21-year-old Lewis Gibson have also been charged in the Jan. 20 murder of Valero employee Leonard Davidson.
