COLDWATER, MS -- Two fires in one night in small town Coldwater, Mississippi have investigators suspicious. They happened Saturday, practically right across the street from one another. Coldwater firefighters have been investigating. Now the state is involved.

The MJ Edwards Funeral Home is gone. Just across Highway 51, a storage building burned. Coldwater residents wonder if an arsonist is on the loose.

"You never know who did it," says Nathan Johnson. "He could be around here everyday, all day."

Both buildings went up in flames after dark, around one in the morning Saturday.

"I really believe my intuition don't lie to me. I really believe that individual that did this here (at the storage unit) also had something with this over here (at the funeral home)," says Gunnis King.

Coldwater's police chief says local fire departments and the state fire marshal's office are investigating.

"You will never know what really happened though," says Johnson. "When it come down to it people around here are real quiet."

Coldwater's fire chief says the storage room was vacant. The funeral home is destroyed. Burned caskets lie in ruins. On Tuesday, water was still coming out of the plumbing.

The timing of the two fires makes them suspicious, also their proximity.

If they were intentionally set, residents hope investigators find that out soon.

"If they don't hurry up and do something, the Coldwater that used to be Coldwater is gonna be in hot water," says King.

Coldwater's police chief says he has no idea how long the fire investigation is going to take or when they'll have some answers.
