MPD Officer Killed In Shooting At Downtown Hotel Identified

UPDATE 7/04/11: Pastor Aaron Litzey of New Bethel Temple Church will hold a prayer vigil at 5:00 p.m. today at the corner of 185 Union Ave. "We pause in our reflection of our nation's independence to pray for the family, friends, and the city of Memphis that Officer Warren died fulfilling his duty to protect and serve," said Litzey. "We hope to cross all lines and blend together as one Memphis during this time of tragedy in our city."

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis police have released the name of the officer killed in Downtown Memphis.

MPD Officer Timothy Warren, a husband and father of two young children, was called to a domestic disturbance at the DoubleTree Hotel located at 185 Union Avenue around 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2011.

Authorities say they are investigating the details surrounding the incident that led to Warren’s death. Another unknown civilian was also fatally shot at the hotel.

According to police, the suspect is in custody. His name has not been released. He is being treated at the Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. Details on official charges are forthcoming.

Officer Warren had been with the Memphis Police Department since 2003. He was assigned to the Entertainment District Unit in South Main Station.

Officials are still investigating the double homicide.
