MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Frayser resident is in critical condition after he was shot in an overnight home invasion, but not before he shot and killed one of his attackers.

Memphis police were called to a home on the 3500-block of Bigelow shortly after midnight on Wednesday, October 24. When they arrived they found the resident on the front porch with a gunshot wound. He told officers he heard a knock at his carport door and armed himself; when he opened the door four armed suspects forced their way inside and demanded money. The suspects then shot the victim and the victim returned fire, hitting one suspect. The other three suspects ran away before police arrived.

The victim, 28, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

"People work hard for what they have and for somebody to just come in and try to take it from them, people go to defend themselves," the victim's neighbor, Darryl Jones, told ABC24 News. "Police be out here trying to maintain the community, try to make it a better place, but the more they try the harder it is. So I don't understand. I'm surprised at what happened today."

The other three suspects remain at large. Anyone with information on this home invasion should call CrimeStoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274). You can also submit your tip at 528cash.org, or text the word AWARD to 274637 (CRIMES). You will remain anonymous, and you could be eligible to receive a cash reward.

Glad the victim was able to defend himself. At least one of the four criminals in this case are off the streets! Prayers for the victims recovery.... and for the other three to be caught!
