MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A man wanted on a felony warrant for theft is now behind bars for raping a woman at a Memphis apartment complex last year.
According to the police affidavit, 29-year-old Markail McKinley was in the parking lot of the Ellington Apartments at Kirby Rd and Mt Moriah on November 25, 2011 when he grabbed the victim from behind, covered her mouth, and dragged her into his car. The victim attempted to fight back, but McKinley proceeded to rape her two times and let her go when he saw someone walking around the complex, the document states.
The victim reported the incident to police and was taken to the Memphis Sexual Assault Resource Center (MSARC) and the MPD Sex Crimes Bureau where she identified McKinley as her assailant.
Markail McKinley, who was wanted on a felony warrant for Theft of Property $1,000-$10,000, was arrested and booked at the Shelby County Jail just after midnight on April 10. He is charged with Failure to Appear in a Felony Case, Theft of Property and two counts of Rape.
