MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect accused of fighting off officers during his arrest, stealing the officers' squad car, then crashing and burning the vehicle.
Police were responding to a call on the 1900-block of Hubert Avenue in north Memphis around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1, when they saw a vehicle matching the description of an SUV that was carjacked earlier that night. Two suspects were removing the tires from the vehicle when officers approached. One suspect, a 15-year-old male, was placed inside the squad car. As officers tried to handcuff the second suspect, he fought all three and wrestled free, then jumped in the police car and drove away.
Police received a tip around 5:15 a.m. that the stolen police car was on fire at the dead end of N Montgomery St at Snowden Ave. Officers found the police car had been driven into a guard rail and set on fire. Also, an MPD shotgun had been taken from the squad car.
Investigators later named 31-year-old Issac Porterfield as a suspect in the case. He is wanted for Theft of Property over $10,000, Vandalism over $10,000 and Assault.
