MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Memphis will be well-represented at next year's super bowl. Bruno mars is the half time entertainment and Memphis musician Kameron Whalum plays trombone in Mars band.

Kameron Whalum says when Bruno Mars first told the band they're performing during halftime of the Superbowl.

"We like paused, looked around and said nah quit playing and we got hype instantly like that," Whalum said.

This was back in June. Up until Sunday, Whalum had to keep it a secret. He couldn't tell a soul.

"So if I didn't respond to you, text messages don't be mad at me. It's not personal," Whalum said.

Kameron's been rocking the trombone for Mars a little more than 2 years. He's played at the VMA's and the Grammy's.

But he admits the super bowl is on a totally different level.

"This is bigger than the Grammy's man. The Grammy's were huge. But this is 110 million people. That's unheard of," Whalum said. "I've thought about doing a lot of things but the Super Bowl never crossed my mind. I can't fathom it right now it's so big. I told somebody yesterday to pinch me. It doesn't feel real yet man. It won't feel real until it's over with," Whalum said.

The 24-year-old said he's not worried about playing in front of millions. Big crowds don't make him nervous. What he is concerned about is the freezing New Jersey weather.

"It's just gonna be cold, freezing…that's the only thing that will be crazy,” Whalum said. "It's the Super Bowl. You can't punk out on it. Do what you got to do.”
