MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A Memphis man is behind bars for beating a woman in the head repeatedly with a tire iron.

On December 21, 2011, the victim asked Mack Joy, Sr. for a ride to a friend's house. As she got in the truck, his son, Mack Joy, Jr., asked to go with them. The father asked Joy, Jr. to "act right" and they drove off.

As they pulled up to the home, Joy, Jr. began arguing with his father and started hitting him. The victim, who had to duck down in her seat to avoid being hit, told Joy, Jr. that he shouldn't treat his father that way.

Joy, Jr. let the victim out of the car, then grabbed a metal tire iron from the truck and struck her in the head multiple times. The victim stated to police that she saw the truck pull away with Joy, Jr. running after it just before she lost consciousness.

The victim was taken to The MED in critical condition for a fractured skull and facial bones. She was able to make a statement to police and identify Joy, Jr. after surgery.

19-year old Mack Joy, Jr. is charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19th.

A father with an "out of control" son actually allows him to go for a ride as he transports a female friend, and then allows that son to beat the friend with a tire iron and drives off as it is happening is a coward and almost as guilty as his child!! How utterly ridiculous is this? I hope this young man spends the max time in prison for his deeds. Bad behavior has to be strictly punished.
