MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - An unspeakable crime: A Memphis mother is accused of pouring gas on the father of her five children, then using a lighter to set him on fire.
According to Memphis Police, Cedric Garrison was attacked just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 on the 1700-block of Castalia in South Memphis.
"He was running around in flames, running around in flames, we had to put him out with a fire extinguisher," said DeSean Bowser, Garrison's nephew.
Bowser says Garrison ran outside in an attempt to put the fire out during Thursday afternoon's rain storm. Eventually someone put it out with a fire extinguisher.
"Seeing him in that situation, it hurt all my cousins, know what I am saying, seeing their father like that. They have been crying all day, stressing about it," said Bowser.
Bowser says Tamika Jones, who had five kids with Garrison is the suspect. According to Police, she told witnesses she was stressed about bills and was going to do something that would lead her to be arrested and go to jail.
Bowser says he doesn't get involved in his aunt's business.
"I don't know nothing about personal life, I ain't seen it," he said.
Bowser, still wearing his pass from visiting his uncle in The MED, said Garrison has burns to his torso and chest.
"He can't talk, he has a tube down his throat, he can't talk," he said.
Garrison remained in critical condition Friday night, as MPD's Criminal Apprehension Team searches for Jones. A warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of Aggravated Arson and Attempted First Degree Murder.
