MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A 5-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet in south Memphis Monday afternoon. Thankfully she was only grazed, and police are now on the hunt for that shooter.

Arianna Booker always returns a wave, even after a bullet grazed the little girl's neck.

Arianna's cousin, Eric Kelly, he'd like to find the person who did this. Give me twenty minutes with him and then the police can have him, he said. That's how angry people are.

"Something popped. That's what she said. Something popped," Kelly said.

Consider this. On a sweltering day, a little girl wants to do the right thing. So she takes trash outside to the trash dumpster.

According to Lt. Col. Lawrence Jamison with Memphis Police, "As soon as it happened, the little girl started screaming. The mother checked the side of her neck and saw that she'd been grazed."

Children end up being targets in this city. Even in this case some people were heard to say, 'Oh, she was only grazed by a bullet.' It's reached a point to some people in Memphis that unless the children are shot and wounded or killed, it's not that big a deal.

A city that brags about its tourist attractions, about all the good things that come with Memphis, will never make any gains until the violence against children stops.

"A stray bullet. I guess it fell out of the sky, somebody was shooting something near. Had to be. My niece is blessed."

Police checked the area. They couldn't find anybody who heard or saw anything. They'll keep looking, but unless somebody wants to step forward and admit it, they probably won't find out who pulled the trigger.

So some guy with an itchy finger and an empty head is walking about firing off a shot or two every now and then.

"Even rounds that go up must come down. They can be deadly coming down."

In this case it wasn't deadly, it was just too close.

This child is truly blessed. Apparently God blesses children by having stray bullets hit them. Also, brownsugar48tc, listen to lebowski. You are a prime example of why racism is still going strong. Look out for whitey, hiding in the shadows.

The MPD is just like the city of Memphis brownsugar48tc more black than white. It's so sad those black officers only help the little white children. Maybe, one day, there might be a black mayor or even a black police chief. #racistssuck

The law is full of crap because if it was a white kid they would have been trying to hunt him down but since it's not they're like oh well if anybody doesn't come foward to confess who did it then there's nothing we can or will do. #Still racist
