GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say construction workers found a red substance leaking from a broken sewer line near a funeral home in downtown Greeneville.

City Administrator Todd Smith told The Greeneville Sun (http://bit.ly/WTSFOn ) that workers discovered the substance on Thursday morning while working on a storm water drainage infrastructure and a hazmat team was brought in, which alerted the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Smith said after a preliminary analysis, officials believe the source of the red substance was the Jeffers Funeral Home and it could be blood or embalming fluid that is in the storm water system.

Joey Harmon, a supervisor with the Greeneville Water Department, said a dye test was conducted later on sinks at the funeral home and some dye was found in the storm water system.
