MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)--Judge Joe Brown has officially entered the race for Shelby County District Attorney.  The former Shelby County prosecutor, perhaps better known as the outspoken television court room judge, filed petition Tuesday.

Judge Brown addressed the Memphis Rotary Club in Midtown Tuesday.  During his talk, he spoke of his experiences as litigator and how Memphis and Shelby County could do much better financially.  It wasn't until a question from the floor was presented that he announced that he would petition the office of Shelby County District Attorney in the upcoming election.

"Well, let's see. If I rely on what's in the back of my mind, which I shut off so that I could be nonpartisan for this then at 3:15 today I will be filing my petition for the Shelby County DA," Brown told the group.

The tough talking, no nonsense television judge did just that Tuesday afternoon. He says he's doing it all because of a call to service. Judge Brown says he's been well aware of the political landscape of the Shelby County maintaining residence in the county while commanding weekly television audiences in LA.

Celebrity will play a huge factor in his campaign bid and he is not afraid of its influence.

"I will have no problem with the name recognition part," Brown said. "Everywhere I go people are looking."

Judge Brown spoke extensively about how the justice system is run here in Shelby County and he wants to make some changes.

District Attorney Amy Weirich didn't have much of a comment regarding Judge Brown.

"My job everyday is to be the wife, the best mother to my four children and the best DA of Shelby County,"  said Weirich.

Qualifying deadline for the election is Thursday, February 20th at noon.
