Grizz Nation Plants Trees For Green Week

-
MEMPHIS, TN - (localmemphis.com) - Grizz Nation is going green.  The Wolf River Conservancy teamed up with the Memphis Grizzlies and International Paper Saturday to make Memphis a little greener.

More than 400 volunteers helped begin the process of planting 10,000 trees at Shelby Farms park.  The 10th annual tree planting is one of the largest tree plantings in west Tennessee.

The effort is part of the NBA's green week.  Organizers hoped that the event would encourage people to get their hands dirty and do something good for the environment.

Despite the cold weather, volunteers stepped up to the challenge.

"I'm really interested in conservation and this is a great city park," says volunteer Sara Smith.  "It's one of the best in the nation."

The Grizz have been going green all week. Friday night, the team gave out 5,000 native tree seedlings to fans at FedexForum.
