Brodeur to make first start in a month

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils will have Martin Brodeur back in net for the first time in a month when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Brodeur last played Feb. 21 against Washington and went on injured reserve soon after being scratched from a scheduled start three days later because of a back injury. He was activated on Tuesday and was the backup to Johan Hedberg in New Jersey's 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers.

The 40-year-old future Hall of Fame goaltender began skating on his own a week ago and returned to practice earlier this week.

Hedberg had started each of New Jersey's 13 games in Brodeur's absence and the Devils were just 3-8-2 in that span.

Brodeur owns a record of 8-2-3 with a 2.27 goals-against average and one shutout in 13 games this season entering Thursday's action.
