Fullilove Speaks On Back Taxes and Behavior

Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove said she is trying her best to pay her property taxes.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove said she is trying her best to pay her property taxes.

She owes three years in back taxes totaling more than $3,500.

She also is telling her critics on the city council they can, in her words, "eat rocks."

Janis Fullilove is a lightening rod. When she speaks, the words are often mixed in with sparks.

“I am very passionate because these people elected me to be their voice on that council. And I’m going to continue to do that,” Fullilove said.

She can be loud and border on being rude. Her response to Memphis Light, Gas, and Water President Jerry Collins not answering a question is an example.

Fullilove said she represents the little guy. The ones who struggle every day to make it.

“And I'm not going to let anybody drown this voice out. Not with accusations, not with innuendo, nothing,” Fullilove said.

There have been plenty of controversial things in the life of Fullilove. As a public servant, everything she has said, everything she does is news.

Even her leaving a city council meeting early led to wild rumors about her behavior.

Its something that city council members are trying to stop. While not mentioning her name specifically, they are working on changing council rules to make meetings less confrontational.

Fullilove says she will do what she has to do to represent her voters.

“I’m going to do that. I'm going to fight. And I’m going to continue to fight. And they can eat rocks,” Fullilove said.

Fullilove said sickness in her family and losing a job has hit her hard over the last few years.

She says she hopes to have her taxes paid up in a short period of time.
