Memphis Neighborhood Fighting Back Against Crime

Enough is enough. People living in one Memphis neighborhood said home invasions have gotten so bad, they worry someone is going to eventually get killed.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Enough is enough. People living in one Memphis neighborhood said home invasions have gotten so bad, they worry someone is going to eventually get killed.

Willie Banks has lived in his home near Wooddale High School for nearly 30 years. For most of that time, he said, things have been fine.

But fine is gone.

"We have a real issue. We have a problem," Banks said.

Banks said in the last month there have been at least 15 home break-ins of homes in this area.

"Fast as we bring stuff into our homes, they're breaking in and stealing it," Banks said. "When you come home and have to look around in the bushes, look up and down the street to see if anyone there wants to hit you in the head, kill you, take what you got. It's not a good feeling."

Stephanie Curry experienced that feeling first hand. Her home is one of the ones that have been broken into.

Neighbors said they are loaded and they're going to stand their ground.

"I'll tell you one thing. They can come in again. They can come in again. Don't worry about what's gonna happen. They can come in again," Curry said.

Banks said the Memphis Police Department has been great. Officers have been actively working with his neighborhood watch group trying to put an end to these burglaries.

But he fears it's going to get worse before it gets better.
