MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The importance of micro-chipping your pet.

Danielle Jones says her two boxer puppies were stolen from her backyard Sunday night.

The dogs do not have microchips, which hold contact information if a pet is lost or stolen.

Jones lost her job during the government shutdown and couldn’t afford it. She has gotten her job back and she has one more reason to celebrate.

Jones says the one year old pups were stolen from her backyard sunday night.

Not long after they disappeared, a good Samaritan saw them in the street, picked them up, and took them to the Germantown Animal Shelter. But no one knew who the dogs belonged to. They didn't have a microchip.

Dr. Megan Arevalo with Maghee Clinic for Animals in East Memphis, said although microchips do not track an animals whereabouts, they do store vital information.

Dr. Arevalo encourages pet owners to chip their animals.

The cost of a microchip varies. Anywhere from $10-$65, depending on where you get it done.

Also don't forget to register the chip because just having it, won't do any good.

A happy ending to this story as well. During the filming of this story, her precious pups were found.
