MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) – A Shelby County Sherriff’s Office deputy was killed in a one vehicle crash just after Midnight Tuesday.

Just after midnight, officers responded to a one vehicle crash on Hwy 385 near Macon Road. When they arrived on the scene, they found that Deputy Sheriff Torrance Suggs was the victim.

According to his Shift Commander, Suggs was on his way to work in his personal vehicle when the crash occurred. When he did not show up for his shift, his commander called his residence to check on him. His wife said he had left the house headed to the Substation earlier. When they checked the route he normally took, they found his vehicle badly damaged after it hit a large construction trailer on a darkened two lane road where new highway construction was taking place.

Suggs, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. He joined the department in 2007 and a leaves a wife and child.
