Southwest Airlines Begins Service To Memphis

It's officially a done deal. Southwest Airlines now offers services to Memphis International Airport.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - It's officially a done deal.

Southwest Airlines now offers services to Memphis International Airport.

The airport's spokesperson says it's worked for months to get this deal underway away after Delta Airlines removed its hub earlier this year.

The first flight to Memphis arrived Sunday from Chicago.

Now you'll have cheaper options. Which is something Memphis International Airport worked to provide to customers.

A crowd of people celebrated Southwest's blue, Boeing 737.

There was even an Elvis impersonator there to welcome the inaugural flight.

Southwest Airlines will offer six flights to destinations including a direct flight to and from Chicago and Orlando. Something that is a huge relief for travelers trying to find more affordable plane tickets.

"I heard about people...I’m not a frequent flyer but listening to conversations all the time definitely need here. Someone else that's going to give us a little be more boost," Memphian Henry Stampley said.

Both city and county officials are at the airport Monday celebrating the newest addition to the Memphis International Airport.
