MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) -Two Memphis police officers were wounded as they tried to arrest a man wanted on attempted murder charges Tuesday.

Police say around 1:20 p.m., officers received information that fugitive Aaron Dumas was inside a home at 1383 Worthington St. in south Memphis. Dumas was wanted for attempted second degree murder after police say he shot his ex-girlfriend and her brother at a home on Galveston St. on October 7th.

Officers and the TACT Unit made the scene on Worthington St. and the homeowner gave officers consent to search the home. Once inside, the officers encountered Dumas and he began firing at them. TACT Officer Timothy Jackson was hit in the leg. Officers returned fire, exited the home and setup a perimeter. That's when investigators say Dumas barricaded himself inside the home. The TACT Unit attempted to negotiate with Dumas, but he refused to surrender.

After numerous failed attempts to talk Dumas out of the home, officers deployed a chemical agent inside the house. That's when authorities say Dumas became irate and fired numerous shots at officers. Officers returned fire. TACT Officer Paul Hutchison was struck in the thigh by gunfire. It is believed Dumas then moved to the back of the house.

Shortly afterwards, investigators say the house became engulfed in flames. When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames had taken over more than half of the home. After a search of the home, Dumas was found dead in a bathtub.

Both TACT Officers were taken to The MED in stable condition. 23-year-old TACT Officer Timothy Jackson was released from the hospital late Tuesday afternoon. He has been employed with MPD since July 2008 and a member of the TACT Unit since June 2012.

34-year-old TACT Officer Paul Hutchison remains in the hospital. He has been employed with MPD since February 1998. He has been assigned to the TACT Unit since August 2008.
