MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A Cordova woman celebrating her release from jail for DUI landed back in jail just hours later after being arrested on the same charge.

According to the police affidavit, Mary Cavitch was pulled over around 12:30 am Monday after driving intoxicated down Union Avenue and running a red light at Union and Kimbrough while an officer was stopped at the same light. The officer said that Cavitch passed so fast and so close to his squad car that the "squad car shook."

As the officer tried to pull Cavitch over, she started and stopped three times before finally coming to a stop at Union and Bellevue.

Cavitch exited the vehicle and immediately stated "what's wrong officer?"

Police said they observed bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and when asked to step out of the vehicle she almost fell over.

Cavitch also slipped out of the handcuffs three different times and tried to keep officers from allowing them to put the handcuffs on.

Cavitch told officers she had just gotten out of the penal farm earlier in the day Sunday and had gone to Celtic Crossing on Cooper to celebrate where she had a bottle of chardonnay.

Cavitch refused to submit to a BAC test and was charged with disregarding a red light, driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a BAC test, resisting arrest, and violation of the financial law. She is being held on a $5,000 bond.
