MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Lakeeda Johnson is a Multi-Skilled Journalist who joined the ABC24 Memphis and CW30 team in January 2022.

She previously worked as an executive production assistant to NBC’s Jacque Reid. Prior to that, Johnson got her start in the industry as a multi-skilled journalist at WWAY in Leland, NC where she covered top stories including Stephanie Mayorga and Paige Escalera (a missing couple), which lead to national coverage. Johnson also reported on the Wilmington insurrection of 1898, interviewed Franchon Francees (granddaughter to Civil Rights Leader Major General Joseph McNeil) about the current state of Wilmington and the work that needed to be done for equality, she reported on Black Lives Matter, COVID-19 and more.

The North Carolina native is a proud alumna of Clark Atlanta University where she majored in Mass Media Arts. During her time at CAU, Johnson spent much of her time learning from credible journalists at the top local news stations in Atlanta (WSB-TV and FOX 5.) She also helped producers write, edit, and research stories for their shows.

While at CAU, Johnson interned for Award-Winning Journalist Jacque Reid, where she co-produced ‘Inside Her Story’ segments for the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which highlighted stories of African-American girls and women. Johnson also co-produced episodes of the Reid This Reid That podcast, which included MSNBC’s Joy Reid.

When Johnson isn’t on the screen, she’s spending time with family, at a coffee shop doing some planning, or at a delicious brunch spot with amazing music. You can even find her somewhere singing karaoke, or maybe on the dance floor.

Johnson is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, The NAACP, and National Association of Black Journalists. She truly enjoys any chance she gets to give back.
