The lights and music are back. It’s been a stepping-stone for now global artists and bands.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The historic New Daisy Theatre, the only place on Beale Street you can hear live concert music, is now officially open after four years with its doors shut.

The lights and music are back. It’s been a stepping-stone for now global artists and bands.

New management is focusing on fresh talent.

“Memphis is a hotspot when it comes to artists, everyone wants to stop here,” said music liaison Tonya Dyson. “So we’re looking forward to getting some of those acts and just really reviving the space and fulfilling its Memphis and purpose.”

It’s attracted world-famous acts like Prince, Al Green and Justin Timberlake.

Dyson shared they’re looking to bring in up-and-coming talent.

“The whole point is to expose people to what we have in the future," Dyson said. "We have the legacy, we know the history. We celebrate history. There are so many different artists that have built on that legacy that should get the same amount of spotlight and exposure.”

Memphis rap legend, Gangsta Boo, AKA the ‘Queen of Memphis’, performed at the New Daisy as a member of Three 6 Mafia.

“Rest in peace to Gangsta Boo and condolences to her family. She will be well missed,” said the group’s first manager, Artemis “Peppa” Williams. “She was a pioneer and legendary artist.”

The group’s former manager shared the New Daisy played an instrumental role in the group’s later success.

“It’s most definitely a well-known staple and marquee in the entertainment industry on Beale Stteet,” said Williams. “You’re saying you’re performing it’s like performing at the House of Blues in New Orleans."
