Fundraiser held to raise funds for long-time Cleveland sports reporter Matt Loede

The well-known sports reporter is battling stage four stomach, kidney and pancreatic cancer.

CLEVELAND — For more than two decades, Matt Loede has dedicated his time to covering Cleveland sports. Despite the ups and downs, Leode has remained a consistent voice in the sports landscape.

In May 2019, much like the sports teams he's covered, Loede's life hit a bump in the road. He was diagnosed with stage four stomach, kidney and pancreatic cancer.

Since his diagnosis, Leode has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and undergone a stem cell transplant. Loede's cancer was in remission, however earlier this month he was told that it has returned. He is currently undergoing additional treatments.

On Saturday, community members joined forces with his family, friends and loved ones for a fundraiser at Tavern of Independence located at 5530 Brecksville Road. The event was put on by The Parma High School Class of 1993.

3News' Director of Digital Content, Denise Polverine, was able to speak with Matt at the fundraiser. Hear what he had to say in the player below.

Despite the burden of his diagnosis, Loede has remained upbeat and positive-- even documenting his journey on his social media platforms.

If you missed Saturday's fundraiser, don't worry. A second fundraiser being held next month. On Tuesday, February 4 Bottlehouse Brewery in Lakewood will host a Sports Trivia night on behalf of Leode.
