As Pink Floyd once said… if you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any fish pudding! Or something like that. That’s right, fish pudding along with tomato aspic, shrimp mousse, and variety of other traditional seasonal dishes are being served up this Lent season at Calvary Episcopal in downtown Memphis.
The Lenten Preaching Series and Waffle Shop event is taking place March 7 – April 12.
Tuesdays through Fridays, guests can enjoy lunch at the Waffle Shop downstairs from 11 am – 1:30 pm and at 12:05 pm head upstairs for the preaching series where each day a world renowned speaker will deliver a message.
Reverend Scott Walters says the Lent luncheon tradition at Calvary is now over 100 years old.
“For many many years, there weren’t any paid staff at all. It was a labor of love. It was all run by people who were committed to opening the doors of Calvary to downtown Memphis,” says Walters.
Anyone is welcome to attend lunch and or the preaching series at Calvary.
Reverend Walters adds that Calvary is also hosting Lent After Dark on Wednesday nights where guests can dine at the Waffle Shop from 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm and then enjoy a speaker in the church from 6:30-7:30 pm.
