Conway Police have released the 911 tape made by a 6-year-old prank caller Monday afternoon who alerted a dispatcher to a made-up shooting at an elementary school.

Authorities determined the call came from the boy using a disconnected cell phone. While the dispatcher believed the caller to be a child at that point there was no way of knowing if the call of a school shooting was valid, according to Conway city officials.

The dispatcher continued to talk with the boy, asking questions, relaying information to the officers at the scene and also keeping him on the line so his location could be pinpointed.

Officers cleared the Marguerite Vann Elementary School and determined there had not been a shooting at the shooting.

The child was later found at a home a couple of blocks from the school.

In an email, a city official said, “Everyone involved from the dispatcher to the officers with the Conway Police Department, the US Marshal’s Service and other agencies did a wonderful job of handling the situation. While it’s unfortunate resources were used unnecessarily, we had to treat this as a real incident until we learned otherwise to make sure there was no danger.  Due to the boy’s age, no charges will be filed in this case.”
