MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Members of the Greater Community Temple have been spending theirsummer Sundays bringing people closer to God.
They went out into North Memphis and Hickory Hill Sunday afternoonto offer prayer and encouragement to those who live nearby.
Bishop Brandon B. Porter says door-to-door ministry is animportant part of the church’s outreach program, and he’s seen the positiveeffects first-hand.
“One year we did this and a young lady, we knocked onthe door, she came to the door. She was crying profusely, and she said, ‘youjust don’t know. I was getting ready to commit suicide and now you’re tellingme Jesus loves me.’ So it actually saved her life,” said Bishop Porter.
Porter says Sunday’s event was especially importantnear the North Memphis location. There was a deadly shooting right across thestreet at the “In and Out Grocery Store” Thursday and he wanted toprovide an opportunity for healing.
