MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Memphis festival season is upon us. You know spring has sprung when you smell poppers downtown. And, in case you missed it, 901 Popper Throwdown returned to the Edge District all for a good cause. It’s local good news.

For the third year, the group behind the former Best Memphis Burger fest held the 901 Popper Throwdown at High Cotton Brewing Co.

“I don’t think it’s so much about poppers,” said Festival Coordinator Seth Agranov.

The family-friendly event featured jalapeno poppers galore, an anything-on-a-stick cook-off, a chicken eating competition, and live music.

“I think everyone likes a little barbecue, the backyard, the tailgating food. I think people just like to get outside,” said Agranov.

Proceeds from 901 Popper Throwdown benefit Memphis Paws, Inc., a nonprofit that promotes responsible pet ownership and supports animal care and rescue organizations in the Memphis area.

“This is just a great event that supports some great charities in Memphis,” said Agranov.

And that’s local good news.
