SHELBY CO., Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Two people who spent decades serving Shelby County received a huge honor Friday morning, the first-ever Shelby County Lifetime Achievement Award.

This year’s honorees are former judge Larry Potter and current General Sessions Court Clerk Ed Stanton, Jr.

Potter started Shelby County’s Environmental Court to help address blight. Stanton has served in the clerk’s position since 2011 and also has more than three decades of service in the criminal justice system.

“They’re just really individuals who stand out for their commitment to Shelby County Government, for trying to invest in the community, and they’re both real strong family men. So, we wanted to honor them because they’re models to all of us in so many ways,” said Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris.

Friday’s ceremony was part of the Sounds of the Season holiday celebration at the criminal justice center and featured the Cordova High School choir.
