WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) – It was a big surprise for Boys and Girls Club organizations in WestMemphis Thursday.
A check for more than $100,000 was presented to the city and MayorMarco McClendon from Southland Casino Racing.
As a show of appreciation for the company, McClendon honored Southland’sCEO by giving him a key to the city.
“Southland has invested $250 million in WestMemphis, and believe it or not, it has been a good economic tool for otherindustries and restaurants that are looking to come to West Memphis,” said McClendon,“… because other people have seen what they are investingin this community and what they are getting ready to do. Also, they areprobably one of the biggest – probably the biggest – employers for the city ofWest Memphis, so they help the people of West Memphis be able to provide fortheir families.”
Mayor McClendon also proclaimed September 19th as“Southland Casino Racing Day” for its many years of philanthropiccontributions to the West Memphis community.
