MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A Memphis church in the middle of what some call one of the most underprivileged areas in the city gave back in a big way Wednesday night.
St. Mark Baptist hosted a free community Thanksgiving-eve dinner in south Memphis. Not only did they give free food, but the congregation donated coats and clothes to give away to the less fortunate.
Members say they’re simply putting their purpose into action.
“I think the major importance is we stabilize families in the city of Memphis and show that we care as a church and that we fulfill the mission of Christ. Christ wanted us to serve humanity he wants us to serve by giving our time, our talents, and our resources,” said Pastor Marvin Mims.
This was the first year for the dinner, which was spearheaded by Pastor Mims who was just appointed to the lead position this month.
