New partnership aims to help to City of Memphis employees raise their credit scores

The goal is to help people work to better their lives through a better credit score.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Quiet.

Sometimes it’s the quiet programs that people make the most noise about.

It’s certainly the case with Hope Inside the Workplace.

Mayor Jim Strickland heard about it, liked the idea, and brought it here.

“Operation Hope and Hope Inside the Workplace,” he says, “... can work with people to really change their lives through a better credit score.”

If you’ve ever bought a car, you know how much difference a good credit score can make.

According to John Hope Bryant of Operation Hope, “What we’re doing with Hope Inside the Workplace and the City of Memphis is delivering detailed and intensive financial counseling and financial literacy.”

Every employee for the city makes at least $15.50 an hour. That’s not Bill Gates money, but with counseling from this program, employees have a chance.

“We are in the service business,” says Mayor Strickland. “We’re trying to serve the public of Memphis. And we want good, satisfied employees who talk about how great it is to work for the city, so we can get other good qualified people.”

Program to provide no-cost financial empowerment education and coaching to more than 2,500 city employees and their families will begin in July. ATLANTA - May 30, 2019 - The City of Memphis and Operation HOPE announced today a partnership to bring HOPE Inside financial coaching and education to city employees and their families.
