Man shot ‘multiple’ times near Memphis elementary school has been identified

Memphis Police are asking for people who have information on Avit Taylor's murder to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274 (CASH).

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATED 8/20/2021 - Memphis Police have identified the man killed in a shooting near Sherwood Elementary last month as Avit Taylor.

Investigators said they were called to the 1200 block of Robinhood near Rhodes Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25th. They found Taylor shot several times in the front seat of a gray Nissan 300Z. Taylor died at the scene.

Investigators said Taylor had pulled up along the curb and got out of his car when a black sedan pulled up. Police said someone in that car fired several shots, even as Taylor got back into his vehicle. The black sedan left southbound on Robinhood.

No one has been arrested. Anyone who can help is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.

7/25/2021 - A man has died after suffering what the Memphis Police Department called “multiple gunshot wounds” late Sunday afternoon in Sherwood Forest.

Police say the man died at the scene near Robinhood and Rhodes, which is near Sherwood Elementary School. There is no suspect information.

Police are asking for people who have information about this homicide to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274 (CASH).
