(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) – A 35-year-old man has beenindicted on first-degree murder charges in the death of a Mississippi man whowas shot several times in the head in the Parkway Village area in July, saidShelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Steven Klines is being held without bond in the ShelbyCounty Jail.
The victim, Willie D. Jones, 23, of Greenwood, Miss., was shotJuly 1 this year while walking past a residence in the 3400 block of BarbwoodDrive in southeast Memphis. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that a suspect nicknamed “Worm” shot Jones,then walked to his car and drove away. Investigators eventually identified“Worm” as Klines, and arrested him about two weeks later.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Stephanie Johnson ofthe DA’s Vertical Prosecution Team 2 which handles cases from General SessionsDivision 9 and Criminal Court Division 2.
