(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) – A 48-year-old man has beenindicted on charges of second-degree murder stemming from the death of his wifein July, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
A grand jury also indicted defendant Johnny Lee Crawford onaggravated assault resulting in death. He is being held on $1 million bond.
On July 21, 2019, police found Jasmine Robinson, 41, unresponsivein Park Avenue near Grand Street in Orange Mound. Witnesses said the victim wasrunning away from a man who caught up with her and punched her in the back ofthe head.
Robinson fell into the street and was motionless, while theassailant, later identified as Crawford, walked away and left her there. Severalvehicles swerved to miss the victim before an SUV struck her.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Meghan Fowler ofthe DA’s Special Prosecution Unit which seeks maximum sentencing for repeatfelony offenders.
