(SHELBY COUNTY D.A. NEWS RELEASE) – A Whitehaven man was convictedWednesday on first-degree murder charges in the robbery and shooting death ofan acquaintance in 2017, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

The Criminal Court jury also convicted defendant Antoine Adams onespecially aggravated robbery charges. The murder conviction carries anautomatic life sentence, while Adams will be sentenced on the robbery convictionnext month by Judge Bobby Carter.

Investigators said the victim, Marquis Bell, 23, was robbed andshot on Feb. 6, 2017, in a Whitehaven convenience store parking lot in the 4200block of Eastwind Drive by Adams and another defendant, 24-year-old OctaviousBland.

Last year Bland pled guilty to charges of second-degree murder andespecially aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 25 years in prison withoutparole.

The trial this week was handled by Felony Asst. Matt McLeod andAsst. Dist. Atty. Brad Reasonover of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 3which handles cases in General Sessions Division 11 and Criminal Court Division3.
