18-year-old charged with murder after police said woman was killed during shootout in Frayser

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are have arrested and charged an 18-year-old with the murder of a woman found shot and killed in Frayser Thursday.

Officers were called to the scene the afternoon of July 4, 2022, in the 2100 block of Whitney Avenue, near Overton Crossing. They found Ramyra Jamison shot and killed inside a Honda.

According to the police affidavit, witnesses saw the Honda speeding away from the 3400 block of Trezevant, where shots were being fired. 

Police said another woman had gotten into an argument with Dequan Huff, 18, and she told her brother Huff had threatened her with a gun. The brother told police when he left his apartment to find out more, Huff fired several shots at him. 

According to the affidavit, the man ran back to his apartment and got his gun, then chased Huff, who continued to fire at the man. The man told police Huff jumped into a car and continued firing, and the man shot back.

Under questioning - according to the affidavit - police said Huff admitted to firing at the man as he stepped out of his apartment. Investigators said Huff told them he jumped into his girlfriend's Honda, with Johnson inside, and she was struck by gunfire.

Huff is charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder. He is due in court Aug. 8.
