An anonymous letter sent to the grandparents of Baby Joe Clyde has been turned over to investigators. The letter claims that the missing boy is alive.

The letter was mailed to Baby Joe’s grandparents in Dickson and they received it Wednesday.

The family turned the letter over to the sheriff’s department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The anonymous letter-writer claims to have been talking to the boy’s mother, Krystal Daniels in jail.

Dickson County Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe has looked at the letter and told News 2, “I believe this is a staged hoax. We do have the letter and it is being investigated.  I have confidence the investigation will reveal the correct response to the content of the letter.”

A spokesperson for the TBI added, “We are working to determine the legitimacy of a letter sent to the grandparents of Joe Clyde Daniels, but at this time have no reason to believe this will change the focus of the investigation.”

Baby Joe’s grandparents remain hopeful their young grandson is alive.

“I hope it is real,” his grandfather, Joe Daniels said. “This is about Baby Joe and I want him back home.”

He continued, “I still believe he’s alive and I think more now that we got this letter, that he is alive. Someone has him and they just need to come forward and bring him home.”

Baby Joe has not been seen since early April and his parents, Krystal and Joseph Daniels, remain in jail in connection with his disappearance.

Joseph Daniels is charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and aggravated child abuse.

Krystal Daniels is charged with aggravated child neglect, filing a false report and criminal responsibility.
