MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Advocates are demanding more money to fund Shelby County Schools. A group of supporters made their voices heard Wednesday as commissioners work to decide on a multi-million dollar budget to fund the district.
A group ofeducators, parents, and community leaders held a rally outside the commissionchambers, urging members to prove they’re serious about supporting thechildren.
SCS is askingfor not only $7.5 million in budget expenses, but also more money for Pre-K,and an extra $64 million for school construction and much-needed maintenance.
“Weneed to make sure the children know we care about them, we’re ready to investin them. SCS has come up with a good list of investments they’re ready to makein all levels of schools,” said Cardell Orrin with Stand for Children.
Thefull commission will have the final say on the budget.
