Brownsville Road Elementary holds grand opening for new Plaza Comunitaria for Latino community

A grand opening was held Friday for a center supporting the Latino community.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A grand opening was held Friday for a center supporting the Latinocommunity.

Brownsville Road Elementary held a grand opening for their new Plaza Comunitaria. The plaza promotes and operates educational services for Spanish-speaking youth and adults 15-years-old and older.

This is also a community resource that allows anyone who speaks Spanishto finish their schooling.

“For those parents that speak Spanish and did not finish their either elementary, middle, or high school, we do offer those courses online where they will have access here. And they can finish their schooling, and it is certified by the Mexican government as a valid finish diploma,” said Elvia Vieyra, Bilingual Mentor with Shelby County Schools.

The classes are free, and visitors only have to payfor the books they have to use for their courses. Classes are available duringthe day when the school is open.
