MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – December 1st is the 31st annual World Aids Day. To bring awarenessto the disease, the Shelby County Health Department collaborated with ShelbyCounty Schools to talk with students.
The Worlds Aids Day program was held at Trezevant High School. ShelbyCounty Mayor Lee Harris gave a proclamation in honor of the day.
The Light of Hope awards ceremony recognized a business, person, andorganization that have consistently shown a strong desire to assist and supportHIV/Aids care, education, and prevention.
More than 6600 people in Shelby County are living with HIV or Aids.
The health department will also host a World Aids DayLighting of Lanterns ceremony on Beale Street Landing on December 2nd at 5:30 p.m.to honor those who’ve lost their lives or were affected by HIV/Aids.
