Ohio Department of Health announces 704 confirmed cases of coronavirus in state; 10 deaths

182 people are hospitalized in Ohio as a result of COVID-19. 75 of them are in ICU.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine held his daily press conference at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus on Wednesday to provide an update on how the state is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Ohio Department of Health reported that there are now 704 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state. 10 people have died, with 182 more hospitalized. 

Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton announced that as of Wednesday, 14,764 tests for COVID-19 had been performed. 

"I'm really proud of all the young people at home," Dr. Acton said during her remarks.  "I want all of you at home to keep spreading the word and staying at home!"

Wednesday was also a time for some inspiration during the briefing. Ohio's First Lady Fran DeWine shared some stories about family and as well as some recipes she's been working on during the period of social distancing.

Governor DeWine also praised praised TikTok star Charlie D'Amelio for doing her part to encourage social distancing.

There are more than 425,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide as of Wednesday morning, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. That includes nearly 19,000 deaths and 109,000 recoveries.

The United States has 55,225 cases and 802 deaths as of 5:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday. More than 350 people have recovered.
